Integration with the OpenNode payment processor will allow Substack to accept Bitcoin payments on-chain and use the Lightning Network.

However, according to OpenNode and Substack, the integration will only be available to “a select group of crypto-focused publications on the platform.”
Substack allows writers to submit their work directly to readers, currently the platform has over 500,000 paid subscribers. Substack readers will now be able to subscribe and pay fees in Bitcoin, and some special publications will also be paid for in crypto.
Substack product designer Nick Inzucch said: “We hope to be able to expand the payment method in crypto in the future. Offering crypto payments will bring more flexibility and freedom to users.”
Founded in 2017, Substack is backed by venture capital funds such as Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, Fifty Years, and others. Currently, Substack is valued at up to $650 million.
